Inflammation activates latent virus, as does the stress hormone cortisol. For me, the fact that the disease is activated by physical and emotional stress was obvious from the beginning, as it has been for many people.

It is the reason why the assumption was made that the illness is psychogenic. The fact that animal retroviruses have GREs and HREs (glucocorticoid and hormone responsive elements) in their LTRs was one of the facts that clinched it for me.

Huge clinical correlation. The findings on PTSD and sustained cortisol levels with brain damage to the amygdala and hippocampus comes into play here for GWI and ME/CFS. Read more>>
