Doctors and other health professionals are to be asked to help identify people who are at risk of being drawn into violent extremism as a part of an updated strategy to combat terrorism unveiled by the home secretary, Theresa May.

The document outlining the revised “Prevent” strategy, which applies mainly to England, says that the Department of Health will need to ensure that the “crucial relationship of trust and confidence between patient and clinician” is balanced with the healthcare worker’s duty to protect the wider public safety.
