BBC - NEWS -Health Scientists have shown how common infections might trigger childhood leukaemia.
They have identified a molecule, TGF, produced by the body in response to infection that stimulates development of the disease.
It triggers multiplication of pre-cancerous stem cells at the expense of healthy counterparts.
The Institute of Cancer Research study appears in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Hi
I have just found your blog from another site. I look forward to having a good read.
I was diagnosed with ME/CFS and Poly myalgia rheumatica as well as Fibromyalgia.
A chance course of Amoxicillin for chest infection significantly improved my arthritis/muscle weakness and led my GP to consider Lyme Disease. Something other patients had presented with at time of tick bite and EM rash.
I had been to surgery with bites and rashes and summer flu' all documented on the computer. My illness has been for 6 years but now after 2 years antibiotics I am more or less fully recovered but not yet off antibiotics. After 31/2 years I can again walk upstairs.
I saw 5 doctors and 3 rheumatologists before GP suspected this diagnosis and then I saw a doctor who specialises privately in Cardiff. I had no positive blood tests but there is much controversay over reliability of these antigen tests. I was diagnosed clinically and treated following ILADS guidelines.
Through www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk and Eurolyme I have been in touch with many people in UK who have had similar problems.
There is quite a body of opinion that believes chronic infections could be the cause of many illnesses so this article was of interest to me.
I am sure as a doctor you will be aware of the controversay between IDSA and ILADS I would be interested in your comments although I know my treatment has worked for me.
Good luck with finding the cause of your ME/CFS.
Hi again
Thought as you are a rare breed of Doctor who clearly has an open mind you may like to look at this site and read some of the case notes by a doctor in USA.
