Alan Cook has been appointed chairman of Irish Life & Permanent. Cook, 57, formerly managing director of the Post Office, chief operating officer of Prudential in the UK and Europe and chief executive of National Savings and Investments, is chairman of the Highways Agency, a non- executive director at the Department for Transport, the Office of Fair Trading and the Financial Ombudsman Service and chairman of Action for ME.
